Being Grateful

Texas has been so dry for so long, most of us forgot what rainbows looked like.

So we were grateful when the rains came.

But by the end of May, the heavens dumped more rain on Dallas – nearly 17 inches – than any previous May since 1899. The downpours caused millions of dollars of property damage as well as loss of life.

So Texans were grateful when the rain we wanted finally stopped and the sun shone.

It’s astonishing how a blessing one day can turn quickly into a curse.

As you take time to reflect on who and what you are grateful for, consider these words from Eric Hoffer:  “The hardest arithmetic to master is that which enables us to count our blessings.”

How does it feel to be grateful? How would you describe gratefulness to others?
